Delicados, Incorporated was organized in Norfolk, -Virginia under the name Sophistocats in 1948 with Geraldine Dodson Randle as founder and four founding members, namely, Barbara Green Bess, Evelyn Brissette, Vivian Brown West, and Juanita Newsome Whitehurst. In keeping with the original goals of the organization and the need for expans

  

Delicados, Incorporated was organized in Norfolk, -Virginia under the name Sophistocats in 1948 with Geraldine Dodson Randle as founder and four founding members, namely, Barbara Green Bess, Evelyn Brissette, Vivian Brown West, and Juanita Newsome Whitehurst. In keeping with the original goals of the organization and the need for expansion, the name Sophistocats was changed to Delicado Social and Civic Club in 1952.

In April 1960, the organization was incorporated as Delicados, Incorporated with the following charter members: Barbara Green Bess, Iris Hemmings Davis, Lola Johnson Freeman, Jean Belardo Parson, Beryl Hodges Roberts, Margaret Buck Saunders, Hattie Lewis Slaughter, Vivian Brown West, Juanita Newsome Whitehurst, Jean Canady McClellan, Bertha Hightower Barnes, Delores Ford Futrell, Evelyn Hyman, Ann Fairclough Jones, Lois Carter, Rosa Butler Heath, Mary Green Corprew, Delores Ricks, Gladys Merritt Bobbitt, and Helen Rollins Whiting.

Chapters were chartered in Washington, DC in August 1961, Portsmouth, Virginia in November 1964; Raleigh North Carolina, November 1967; Annapolis, Maryland, March 1968; Chesapeake, Virginia November 1970; Baltimore, Maryland, 1979; Richmond, Virginia, May, 1984; Virginia Beach, Virginia, June 1988; and Saint Mary’s County, Maryland, November, 1994.

The ten chapters, comprised of prolific professional women, actively engage in civic and social endeavors to upgrade the finer ideals of sisterhood locally and nationally.
